28th July 2007
This is the week that was....WET!

by Adam Bennett

With the country under about 20 feet of water, many coaches would have been forgiving, and told their players to go to the gym, or take a run on a hill somewhere, but not the Roo's! With a single-mindedness bordering on enthusiasm, the lads were not to be detered from their training ground of choice - the oval on Fortress: Kings Meadow....
....although it had to be said, for a ground that is swiftly gaining the reputation as one of the better surfaces in the country, the current conditions left something to be desired....
Indeed, the executive grandstand (and part time ski-jump), with an eagle eye view of the pitch, had become lakeside property and prices had skyrocketed.
Not put off by anything as mundane as a little bit of water (although the club's Aussies were mysteriously absent....) the lads were dedicated (and wet) in their approach to training, and set off to the training ground.
Where they engaged in a number of drills from handballs....
....to goalkicking....
....some ruck drills....
....and some all important tackle practice.
And some more tackle practice, double-team stylee.
Jules even went through some 'innovative' new drills, although, as with so many of Jules' plans, something inevitably went wrong with the balance somewhere....
...but at the end of it, a magnificent batch of athletes left the ground, safe in the knowledge that they were keeping up the stern training regime set out before them by coach Barty.
This extraordinary feat of athleticism was followed by the happy occasion of the creation of the magical union of matrimony between Mr Andrew Whiteaker, and his lovely wife Vivian. Some of you may remember Viv as the young lady who attended several of the Roo's pre-season boxing sessions - and made most of us look like girls!

Congratulations to both of you, and best wishes from everybody at the Kangaroos for a long and happy partnership.
