Another Great Performance from the Roos

by Oli Reid

With the rain starting to creep into the sky it was going to be the Roos first test on a wet track, as well as being the first away game for the season. The Swans had already be conquered in Reading 2 weeks prior but away from home this season the Roos were untested, with some key players not in the line-up some movement of some players around the ground was needed to cover those missing.

The 1st Quarter as they say in footy should set the tone for the game - and it did with the Roos beginning a run of scores that the Swans were just never going to reply to. The chances on goal for the Roos were coming straight out of the middle of the park with Andy C, Kurt and Danny were all running on to the excellent centre hit-outs from Ruckman Will. With the back line raely being called into action, yet when they were the chances snuffed with accountable tackling and hard running at the ball.

Grubber lines up another shot after good work by Will in the ruck.

2nd Quarter mirrored the 1st as the Roos continued what could now be called a 'killing' - Even with a extra man on the field the Swans were still under the pump. Kurt was a master amoung the dead balls and provided plenty of feeds to the ever present Phil Barnard who by now I think has well and truly wrapped up top goal scorer for the season even if he retires (please don't retire). The backline was called into action once or twice, but more often than not were left standing to watch Will Ruck the ball to an open Roo for an easy escape to the forward line.

3rd Quarter could have seen a tiring Reading start to give away a few loose balls - yet they still continued to pile it on as if the Swans backs didn't have enough on their plate. Andy Craig started to help out the forwards with some goal kicking himself, turning provider to scorer. With 'Skipper' Ads on the bench the Swans were able to sneak a couple of goals to help the confidence.

Oli steps away from a tiring Swans backline.

4th Quarter - the party had started with some moving to the bench for an early beer and a rest. This quarter proved to be an chance for some players to get on the scoreboard in a multiple of different ways, some choosing the more normal approach of kicking goals, others (who for legal reason shall be named as Mr O.Reid) felt it was not fair to keep scoring 6 pointers and figured would give the Swans a chance by only posting 1's in a variety of ways that surely was worth the £1 fine.

The game ended the way many figured it would with the Roos showing that they had too much class in all postitions. Having now played the Swans twice and put them away with large margins this gives the Roos a great platform to attack the season, as many see the coming weeks as tough tests with Regents Park and Fulham sure to provide a solid game.

Last mention should go to Patto who would like to i'm sure to claim this game as a 'Testimonial' for he showed it doesn't matter how long you've been out of the game 'it's just like riding a bike' - Patto have a great trip around Europe on your push bike just avoid curbs, pot-holes and Danish Police.
