23rd July - Roos just can't get over that first finals hurdle
The boys struggled hard, but with several absences and on a much bigger pitch than usual, the greater experience of the Lions told once again. The eventual scoreline was probably a fair result, with the hard work keeping the boys up with the opposition, before more clinical finishing in front of goal made the eventual difference between the teams. With only 2 goals separating the teams though, the effect of Trav's coaching has definitely improved the ability and decision-making on the pitch and if the club can keep recruiting well to get the numbers up, the signs are good to force our way through into the later finals.

16th July - great performance in the wet
In a textbook display, the Roos went out into the downpour in Putney and played a great game against the Fulham Magpies, keeping the opposition scoreless until a single goal in the last quarter. The ball was like a giant bar of soap, but the guys battled hard for it and great leads from the goalsquare by stand-in forward Ted led to numerous opportunities for the crumbing Roos forwards. Some excellent nominations for the Shank of the Season as well from Tim and Rad, square in front.

9th July - never got going as Lions tighten up the ladder
With both teams short of numbers, the relative inexperience in the Roos line-up opposed to their mostly Aussie opposition was the deciding factor on the Bounds Green hillside. The guys battled hard to prevent clean scoring shots, whilst maintaining a good ratio themselves, but couldn't prevent enough shots to keep the scores tight.

2nd July - a little bit of luck sees the guys through against the mighty Demons
The South London Demons, top of the ladder are a big scalp to take, but the Roo's managed it with a slice of luck at the end, as the Demons minored an easy kick which would have given them the win right at the end. The lads weren't quite as on form as Coach Trav would have liked, but managed to grind it out against more experienced opposition to make the battle for a top 2 spot even tighter.

25th June - Finally a good Saturday run!
The Hawks ventured down to Kings Meadow and were soundly beaten by a Roos team responding to Trav's coaching. He was full of praise for the guys work-rate, battle and voice, showing that training sessions were paying dividends. Alex capped a great performance with 5 goals and Padraig got his first.

22nd June - International Cup dream scuppered
A heart-breaking moment for Ads as an operation on a stomach problem has ruled him out for the rest of the season, including the International Cup as part of the GB team. After the high of getting his first goal for the club in 7 seasons a few weeks back, this is about as low as it gets.

18th June - Emus have to forfeit
Surely the Emu's, part of the biggest footy club in the world outside Australia, would manage to get the numbers? Unfortunately this wasn't the case and the squad had to make do with another 50-0 forfeit win. Admittedly, one which might make the finals spot a little safer.

11th June - Another disappointing win
Unfortunately, the Magpies weren't able to send their 3rds down with some late drop-outs leaving them short. The points all count and the extra home games next year will be appreciated, but the squad would rather be running that not on game-day.

4th June - That's more like it!
A day that will be long remembered - a hard fighting victory against the Emu's. Starting light due to some train trouble, the guys fought hard to earn a 2 goal win against the all-conquering Emus team. Great run in the middle from Rad and Rookie, George was dominant in the ruck, Ads got his first league goal and Brent crowned his return with a 7 goal haul. It's always a good day when you get to sing the song at the end!

28th May - A first win....kinda
All full of go for the first home match, but the Lions don't have the numbers to send a squad down, so a first win of the season for the Roos. Helps the ladder position, but not the the guys are gutted not to have the run.

21st May - Hawks prove too much for the Roos
The team's tough season opening continued with anoth light squad travelling to Wimbledon for the clash with the Hawks. Lots of positives from the guys play and Will's rucking was top notch, but the guys will look to improve the scorelines against the Lions next week.

15th May - season opener is tough going
With injuries and absences rife, a reduced squad travelled to Clapham for the first game of the season against the mighty Demons. Thanks very much to the D's lads who joined in to make up the side and although the scoreline went the wrong way, coach Travis was pleased with the endeavour from the lads, as well as evidence that people have been paying attention in training.

25th April - Going for a 3rd International Cup
Club President Ads has been named in the GB Bulldogs squad, travelling to Australia in August to compete in the International Cup. First selected for the 2005 competition and rarely missing a GB international since then, Ads has amassed 25 caps and 5 goals for the Bulldogs and now he's getting old, will be looking forward to probably his last chance to get beaten up by a pack of rampaging Samoans!

Toddy was unlucky to miss out on initial selection, but will be battling hard through the season to earn a spot before the squad travels in early August.

Good first kick out at the Bournemouth Super 9's
The season got started for 10 of the lads on Saturday, competing in the Bournemouth Super 9's. A narrow win against the Sussex Swans was followed by a more convincing effort against the University of Chichester, before coming well and truly a cropper against the all-conquering Shepherds Bush Raiders, who went on to win the competition against their colleagues, the West London Wildcats.

It was a good hit out and a memorable day. Whits' hands went missing whenever the ball was in front, but he still managed to notch 5 goals on the day. Nathan decided to give the Raiders a chance and sat out for 10 minutes to bleach the flowing blond hair and Ads got his first ever domestic goals for the club. The disbelief from team-mates was a wonderful testament to the philosophy that this guy shoul;d never be allowed in the opposition half.

Pre-season training has started!
Catch the Roos as they prepare for the new season. Tuesday training is on and all-comers are welcome, 6:30pm - 8:00pm at Kings Meadow, Napier Road, Reading.
